Elite PD-71 CD Player Pioneer introduced the PD-71 CD Player in 1989, but the Elite name did not appear on the front, like the M-90 amplifier and C-90 pre-amplifier which did not display the Elite name. On the front of the PD-71 appeared the descriptive: Reference Compact Disc Player. However, the following year Pioneer introduced the PD-71 with the ELITE identification, shown in the photo below (photo courtesy of Rob Green).
This player employed an 18-bit D/A converter. It was a single disc player. It featured the same copper plated chassis and rugged construction that marked the Reference line, before it became known as Elite. Below are reproduced both pages of the two-page ad Pioneer ran in the May 1990 Audio describing its top-of-the-line compact disc player. Click on the thumbnail image; after the page loads it will reformat to fit you screen. Hold you mouse cursor in the lower right-hand corner of the image and an icon will appear that will allow you to enlarge the image fullsize.
